6/18/08 - Crime Report
Good Morning University City Division Residents, During the past week we have noticed two trends that we want to keep you informed about. First, our burglaries are continuously decreasing each week due to the hard work of our directed patrol officers but we are seeing the suspect(s) damage and tamper with front door locks in order to gain entry. In some cases the front doors are open. The second trend we are seeing is suspects entering garages through doors that are left open as well as unlocked cars are a target once they enter the garage. In a lot of these cases the resident is in the back yard or inside the home. The main targets for both of these trends are jewelry, credit cards and checkbooks. Tips to prevent burglaries:

  • If you are inside your home or in the backyard please close your garage door(s) and always lock your car doors while they are in the garage.
  • Please consider using a sound device on your front door if you do not have an alarm to alert you and the thief that someone could be home.
  • Ensure that the doors and windows of your home are unobstructed by shrubbery and trees.
  • Inside your home please do not have credit cards and extras checks in the obvious places like desk drawers, unused purses and wallets. Secure them by using a small safe or other means.
Please contact the University City Division Office if you need any further assistance at (704) 432-3970 or contact Sgt. J. McGraw at jmcgraw@cmpd.org

9/22/07 - Unfortunately, another crime has occurred in our neighborhood!
On the morning of 9/19 at 11:30am, one of our neighbors, on Heron Glen, had put a bike up on the rack of their car, actually 'bungee corded' the bike to the rack on the car.  After going inside the house for just a few minutes, our neighbor returned outside to find that the bike had already been removed from the car / stolen!

8/14/07 - Please be aware that Falcon Ridge has, again, experienced another crime incident!  A resident on Heron Glen has reported that someone  was throwing things at her bedroom window early Sunday morning.  They also broke her bird bath.  We can only assume they were probably testing to see if anyone was home before attempting a BREAK-IN.

We can't stress enough how important it is to secure your homes.  Please refer to the recent Community Watch Alert document from our Neighborhood Watch Committee.

7/28/07 - Please click here for information on recent crime in Falcon Ridge!

7/2/07 - Please click here for a report from our CMPD Officer Jeff Miller regarding the "Child Protective Ordinance".  This is a reminder for the summer months and, particularly, the upcoming Fourth of July holiday,

6/29/07 - Here is information about the upcoming "National Night Out"

National Night Out will be held at Prosperity Park on Tuesday August 7th from 6 to 9 pm.  There will be demonstrations by the Charlotte Fire and Police Departments.  There will be a Live Band and Safety information for the children.  Food and Drinks will be available for purchase at a reasonable price.

More information will be distributed in a July flyer, the August/September Newsletter, The Neighbors section of the Charlotte Observer and the Charlotte Weekly will also print information on this event. We have also invited our political representatives to attend.

If anyone wants to help out, contact Willie Mushatt at (704) 948-3623 or email him at williemushatt@bellsouth.net.

5/23/07 - The following is an email report from our CMPD Officer Jeff Miller (The Devonshire subdivision is off Prosperity near DeArmon):

This morning (5/22) an older gentleman was working in his yard in the Devonshire Subdivision.  A young black male came running at him with a gun in his hand.  The suspect had a mask over his face.  He attempted to force the victim into his house, but he resisted.  The suspect struck the victim over the left eye with the gun and then ran.  Neighbors were able to give officer a description of the suspect and the car he left in.  The car was a blue Buick Le Sabre.

** Please be aware of your surroundings!!  **

- Please be aware of this shopping tip.

Well the crooks have found a way to rob you of your gift card balance.
If you buy Gift Cards from a display rack that has various store cards you may become a victim of theft. Crooks are now jotting down the card numbers in the store, then wait a few days and call to see how much of a balance THEY have on the card. Once they find the card is "activated", they go online and start shopping.

You may want to purchase your card from a customer service person, where they do not have the Gift Cards viewable to the public.

Please share this with all your family and friends!

11/10/06
- Please be aware there was a home invasion in our neighboring village of La Grande last night.  Due to the warmer weather, the windows and back door of the home were open.  Three armed men in ski masks entered the home through the back door.

Please be safe and aware!  Keep doors & windows locked, especially after dark!

9/12/06 - Please be advised of a security warning from the Highland Creek Security Committee!

SECURITY ALERT

Several neighborhoods within Highland Creek have experienced break-ins of their vehicles.  In most cases, the vehicles have not been locked and valuables were stolen.  The Highland Creek Security Committee is fully aware of these incidences.  The committee recommends the following:

 ·        PLEASE BE SURE TO LOCK YOUR CARS AT ALL TIMES, ESPECIALLY IF THERE ARE VALUABLES INSIDE.

·        LEAVE YOUR OUTSIDE HOUSE LIGHTS ON ALL NIGHT.  THE COST IS MINIMAL COMPARED TO POSSIBLE LOSSES.

·        INSTALL MOTION DETECTOR LIGHTS ON OUTSIDE OF HOUSE.  THEY ARE NOT THAT EXPENSIVE TO PURCHASE AND CERTAINLY WOULD BE A GOOD PREVENTIVE MEASURE.

·        PLEASE CONTACT LANDMARK SECURITY IF YOU SEE ANYONE ACTING SUSPICIOUSLY.   704-609-0569

·        PLEASE REPORT ANY BREAK-IN TO THE POLICE. IF IT IS IMMEDIATELY DURING OR AFTER  THE CRIME, CALL 911.   IF NOT AN EMERGENCY ANYMORE, CALL ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

                                    MECKLENBURG  NON-EMERGENCY: 704-353-1000

                                    CABARRUS  NON-EMERGENCY: 704-920-3000

·        PLEASE BE SURE TO REPORT ANY INCIDENCES AS WE DO TRACK THEM. THIS ENABLES US TO PROVIDE EXTRA SURVEILLANCE IN THOSE NEIGHBORHOODS.  WE CAN’T HELP IF YOU DON’T HELP.

·        START A NEIGHBORHOOD  CRIME WATCH.**

These incidences are disturbing to all of us but certainly  are not unique to Highland Creek.  With diligence on our parts, hopefully we can eliminate being easy targets and the crime will go elsewhere or  the criminals will be caught. Please encourage your neighbors to practice these good measures as well.

**Many have expressed the need to form a Neighborhood Watch.  We encourage all neighborhoods to participate.  We have the materials and contact people if you want to start one.  They have to be done by each neighborhood.  Please  start by contacting  your representative to the Highland Creek Advisory Committee to express your interest.  We will help facilitate the start-up of the program.

** Falcon Ridge has a Neighborhood Watch Committee; if you are interested in getting involved, please email Willie Mushatt!
